Number of Abortions
This is where the understanding begins when it comes to abortion. Think of it like the canvas upon which the picture is painted. In 2019, there were roughly 6,005 abortions. This is the total number including all of the racial subcategories with a 99.9% accuracy. Of those abortion procedures, blacks accounted for 3,717 of them. Meanwhile, whites accounted for 1,823. Next, Hispanics accounted for 323 abortions. And, lastly, the “Others” category accounted for 142 of the abortions in the state in 2019.
Percentage of Abortions

That is nearly two-thirds of the total. In contrast, abortions involving white “mothers” make up only 30.4 percent. Hispanic abortions in the state make up around 5.4%. Meanwhile, the remaining 2.4 percent of abortions are attributed to those falling into the others category. Keep these numbers in mind as we move along.
Percentage of Population
The last piece of the puzzle are the percentages of the population that each racial demographic or category represents. We can call this the “finishing touch” in regards to painting an accurate picture of what is happening in Alabama. Blacks made up around 26.8 percent of the population.
